Ivan Radović

Born: 1894, Vršac – 1973, Beograd

Born on 22 June 1894 in Vršac, died on 14 August 1973 in Belgrade. He completed teacher training college in Sombor and studied painting at the Academy in Budapest (1917–1919), continuing through study travels to Munich, Prague, Venice and Paris (1921).

His work moves through several phases — from early constructivism and post-cubism, through neoclassicism, to romanticism and poetic realism; he also experimented with abstraction and colourist expressionism. Among his known works are “A Man Leading Horses” (National Museum in Kraljevo) and “View with Round Treetops” (1922).

His first exhibition was held in Belgrade in 1922, with retrospectives in Novi Sad (1966) and Belgrade (1971). He was a member of the art groups Oblik and Šestorica, and a corresponding member of the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts from 1970. He received the Order of St Sava (1930), a silver medal in Paris (1937) and the AVNOJ Award (1971).
